No Animal Welfare Law coverage for Galgos (and many others)

Animal Welfare in Spain is not for Galgos
Just spoke to a dear friend who was very upset and sad. She helped to rescue and care for six Galgos. Two of them are more dead than alive and the other four in extremely bad condition. SEPRONA and the local Police cannot do anything, because hunting dogs are excluded from the “Ley de Bienestar Animal” (Animal Welfare Law) in Spain.

Actually, it is the same for other “working breeds”. Yes, that includes “Police Dogs”.

Just to resume: The dogs (and many other animals) who “work” for us are excluded!

What if we exclude some professional groups like, Police, Fire Fighters and other essentially important professionals from the Fundamental Human Rights?

If we can do that to a “Service Dog” who helps us with the livestock, finds drugs, rescues lost hikers, etc., then we can maybe also do that to humans who risk their life for us, protect and rescue us? When did we lose respect and common sense?

There are obviously also different classes of “Working Breeds” The "upper class" like Police Dogs is very unlikely to suffer any abuse, because their guardians see them as member of the team. They work and live together and have a relation of respect, love and trust. It could not work any other way.

What about Hunting Dogs? What about the Guard Dog protecting the industrial unit? Not even to mention the dogs who work at Bull Fights? Well, obvious, no? It would be so inconvenient or even make it impossible to (ab)use these dogs, if they had rights to be respected – I don´t even want to start talking about meeting their needs as dogs.

We can't just look away. We need to step up for their rights, as we do for ours.
